In 2014, Mayor Tina Miceli was the first woman elected to the office of Mayor and took office January 1, 2015. She is married to Dr. Joseph Miceli and they have two children – Emily, 20 & Matthew, 17. Prior to her election, Mayor Miceli was an Oncology Nurse in the Radiation Oncology Departments at Ochsner Hospital and Touro Infirmary. She has received honors in her chosen profession, including: Excellence in Nursing Practice Award from Ochsner Hospital; Spirit of Caring Award from the American Cancer Society and is a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu – Jesuit Honor Society.

She has worked closely with cancer patients and their families helping them through their journey for over 26 years.  She was involved in direct patient care on a daily basis but also took on many other roles.  She acted as the official liaison between non-nursing personnel and the professional staff, scheduled all nursing staff for an inpatient oncology unit, and has developed programs to improve the quality of life for cancer patients. She has written a variety of educational materials and published a children’s book on dealing with cancer. . She has given oral presentations on multiple oncology subjects, participated in the development of national research studies, and continues to educate Delgado Radiation Therapy students. Mayor Miceli is using the same dedication & professionalism to improve the City of Harahan, keeping it true to it’s nickname – “the City of Friendship” and working to make it the best place to live in Louisiana.
